NLC INSISTS THAT FG DEREGISTERS NEW UNIONS – CONUA AND NAMDA

Date:

The illegal registration of two new unions by the Federal Government for universities, has brought about controversies as there can be only one union according to the Law, and ASUU is a registered union. To this effect, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has refused to do Senator Chris Ngige’s bidding. The Senator through a letter from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, urged NLC Chairman, Ayuba Wabba, to accommodate the unions so that peace could exist.
In response to the letter received, NLC responds that they insist on the Federal Government deregistering the two university based unions – the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and Nigeria Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA). He further warned the Minister to stop deceiving the public with false citations of Labour Authorities. Ayuba debunked the Senator’s claims by providing first-hand back up from the constitution. The Chairman’s defence has nullified the Minister’s claims and the public await the Federal Government’s action for the anticipated change.
