The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has instructed terminal operators and shipping firms to stop charging fees for export cargoes arriving at different terminals for loading, except for situations in which the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) or other government agencies specifically request it.
The authority said this is to ensure that operation does not conflict with existing service lines of terminal operators and shipping companies. The Managing Director, NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, in compliance with Executive Order 001 as it relates to the authority’s creation of export terminals within the ports, further briefed terminal operators and shipping companies on the takeoff of the EPTs.
The authority revealed that it has advanced in its efforts to adapt Nigeria Export Proceeds (NXP) from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ETO criteria.
The purpose of this, according to the authority, is to prevent shipping lines from bringing export boxes to terminals without fulfilling the Required requirements and dumping them there with all the difficulties that entails.
