SOUTH KOREA BILLS TESLA $2.2 MILLION

Date:

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), South Korea’s antitrust watchdog, will fine Tesla Incorporated 2.85 billion won for neglecting to inform its consumers that its electric cars (EVs) have a reduced range when the weather becomes freezing cold.

According to the KFTC, Tesla’s official local website, since August 2019 until recently, overstated the driving ranges of its vehicles on a single charge, their fuel efficiency when compared to petrol vehicles, and the performance of its superchargers.

According to a statement made by the KFTC, the cold weather performance of Tesla vehicles fell to 50.5% of what was claimed online. The Tesla website offered a number of driving advice for the winter, but it did not address the reduced driving range during a freezing cold weather condition. Hence the fine, which is meant to serve as payment for damages.
