In view of the general elections coming up in 2023, the Nigerian Senate has gone ahead to confirm all the 19 Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) nominees appointed by President Buhari for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). IReport 247 gathered that this development was a follow-up to the consideration of the Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya.
Remember that last week, the Committee screened five of the appointees for reappointment and another 14 for fresh appointments. The reappointed nominees that were confirmed as of Wednesday are; Agboke Olaleke (Ogun); Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa); Umar Ibrahim (Taraba); Obo Effanga (Cross River); and Professor Samuel Egwu (Kogi).
Those confirmed appointees for fresh appointment are Onyeka Ugochi (Imo); Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto); Ayobami Salami, a professor, (Oyo); Zango Abdu (Katsina); Queen Agwu (Ebonyi); and Agundu Tersoo (Benue); Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta); Yahaya Ibrahim, a professor, (Kaduna); Nura Ali (Kano); Agu Uchenna (Enugu) and many others.
