The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been pitted in Pot 3 in the draw for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be hosted by Indonesia. The Flying Eagles who finished in third position at the recently concluded Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt will know their group stage opponents in the upcoming draws set to take place in Jakarta on April 1st.
Hosts Indonesia, Italy and France are among the teams placed in Pot 1, while Pot 2 has teams like Brazil and England among others. There will be six groups of four teams with the top two teams making it to the Round of 16. The top four third-best losers will also make it to the knockout round.
Despite their failure to win the ultimate prize in Egypt, flying eagles coach Ladan Bosso is optimistic his team can go all the way at the World Cup.
“Our fresh target is doing very well at the FIFA World Cup,” Bosso said during the reception organized for the team in Abuja on Monday night. “That is our next target and we will work hard to ensure we bring the trophy to Nigeria.”
The Flying Eagles have made it to the final of the U-20 World Cup twice but came second on both occasions. The competition is set to kick off from May 20th and will run to the 11th of June.
