Barely a week to INEC’s approved Campaign kick-off date, the crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has heightened with the break out of Governor Nyesom Wike’s group from the party’s Presidential Campaign. The group officially announced its breakout after a seven hour meeting which started on Tuesday at 19:00 and lasted till the early hours of Wednesday (today), in the Rivers State Governor’s Residence in Port- Harcourt.
Elder statesman, Olabode George, a PDP chieftain who was also present at the meeting broke the news to waiting journalists at the early hours of this morning. Some other Elder statesmen present at the meeting are: Jerry Gana, South-South Chairman of the PDP Dan Orbih; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche; Senator Suleiman Nazif, and Nnenna Ukeje, to mention a few.
Although some members of the group are part of those appointed to be leaders and members of the Atiku campaign body, chief Bode George said unless the incumbent chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu resigns and be replaced with a candidate from the South-South, then the group wants no part of the Presidential Campaign. No one will be a part in any way.
The group members present at the Port- Harcourt private residence of Gov. Wike are: former Governors Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti, Donald Duke of Cross River, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe and Jonah Jang of Plateau, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; and former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke.
