2024 FIFA U17 WWC Qualifications: Central African Republic 0-6 Nigeria, Flamingos Soar Away From Home

Date:

Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team recorded a massive 6-0 win over its Central African Republic counterparts in the first leg of the second-round qualifier for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup on Sunday. Goals from Harmony Chidi and Shakirat Moshood – netted a brace each – at the same time, Prisca Nwachukwu and Edidiong Etim also found the net as the Flamingos ran riot inside the Stade Omnisport Duoala in Cameroon.

The Flamingos, who won a bronze medal at the previous edition in India, started the game on the front foot and were rewarded with an early goal in Duoala when Harmony Chidi got the opener in the fifth minute. The Central African Republic put up stiff resistance until the 38th minute when Nwachukwu Prisca doubled the Flamingos’ advantage.

There was still time for Moshood and Chidi to fire in quick succession as Nigeria went into the halftime break with a healthy 4-0 lead. The Flaminges picked up from where they left off when Edidiong netted the fifth goal of the match ten minutes into the second half before Moshood completed the rout with a stunning strike from the free kick spot 30 yards out.

The second leg will be played in Abuja at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday, 10th February, 2024. The Flamingos, however, already have a foot in the third round of the qualifying campaign, where they will potentially face the winner of the clash between Burkina Faso and Guinea. Three countries will represent Africa at the tournament, which will be hosted in the Dominican Republic between October 16 and November 3, 2024.
